The New England Patriots secured their eighth consecutive victory by defeating the New York Jets 27-14 on Thursday.
One key factor behind New England’s success over the past eight weeks has been the exceptional performance of quarterback Drake Maye. At just 23 years old and in only his second NFL season, Maye has caught the attention of many, including former Patriots linebacker and current Boston radio host Ted Johnson, who believes that Maye is likely to win a Super Bowl before Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen does.
“Drake Maye,” Johnson said Friday when asked who will win a Super Bowl first between Allen and Maye on “WEEI Afternoons”. “I’m at that point I’ve always really loved his game, and now that the winning is coming.”
Allen is in his eighth NFL season and has come so close to reaching the Super Bowl on several occasions, but he has consistently fallen short against the Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason.
Currently, the Patriots hold the best record in the AFC East, placing them ahead of the Bills. If New England can keep winning games, there’s a good chance it will secure the division title and earn home-field advantage in the playoffs. This could set the Patriots up nicely for a successful postseason run, which could help Maye reach the Super Bowl.
It will be interesting to see who wins a Super Bowl first: Maye or Allen. There’s also the possibility that neither of them does, but with the youthful roster of the Patriots, they could continue to improve and set themselves up for a shot at the Super Bowl in the next few years.
