Aaron Rodgers and a group of his Pittsburgh Steelers teammates gathered in Wyoming recently. Former Cincinnati Bengals receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh believes the retreat will pay off as things inevitably get bumpy for Mike McCarthy’s team during this upcoming season.
“These type of moments, getting together, I’m not really going off because I’ve genuinely gotten to know this guy,” Houshmandzadeh said Tuesday on “Speakeasy.” “And so when I’m cool with you, I may be (frustrated), but I ain’t saying nothing. (I’m just) like, ‘Bruh!’ You already know what that means. So that explosion, so to speak, won’t be there if that’s what y’all think we gonna do because of this retreat. (There) was a lot of football talked at this retreat. It’s a lot of life, family, wives and loved ones, so you really get to know somebody.
“When you get to know somebody, you treat them and you act differently because it’s not just football now. When you go on these type of retreats, when I retire, we’re cool. We’re communicating at least once a week. … So that’s gonna help them.”
Without George Pickens in the fold, the Steelers stable of pass-catchers wasn’t nearly as volatile last season. DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr., two of those included in the trip out west, are veterans in the league who appear to have a good relationship.
Roman Wilson, another receiver who joined Rodgers and fellow quarterback Mason Rudolph, didn’t deflect blame last season as he was listed as a healthy scratch down the stretch.
