Change is once again sweeping through NFL Network’s flagship morning show.

After several high-profile departures in recent years, Good Morning Football will head into 2025 without one of its most recent additions. Akbar Gbajabiamila, a former NFL defensive end turned media personality, is officially out after just one season with the show.

The news, first reported by Deadline, comes after a noticeable absence from Gbajabiamila since mid-February. His last appearance aired on February 14, when the cast discussed post-season vacation plans and signed off for a break. Since then, he hasn’t returned to the studio or the screen.

Gbajabiamila’s Quiet Exit

Gbajabiamila, who joined the Good Morning Football team in 2024, brought the charisma and presence that fans recognize from American Ninja Warrior and past NFL coverage. Despite being new to the show, he quickly found chemistry with co-hosts Jamie Erdahl, Kyle Brandt, and Peter Schrager. On his final day, Gbajabiamila reflected on his experience, calling it “such a cool experience” and revealing his post-season getaway plans. “I’m going to Florida too with [Schrager], but I’m only going to be there for a couple of days, and I’m going to hop over to the Bahamas,” he said on air. “But, it’s been real.”

Though his comments sounded more like a temporary sign-off than a farewell, Deadline’s report this week confirmed that Gbajabiamila will not return for the upcoming season. The network hasn’t shared any official reasoning for the decision. Whether this was a creative shake-up or a scheduling conflict remains unclear.

Good Morning Football has undergone several transitions in recent years. The show lost longtime host Kay Adams in 2022 and later saw Peter Schrager step away from regular hosting duties. While the program remains a key piece of the NFL Network lineup, it’s clear the network continues to tinker with its formula.

Gbajabiamila hasn’t commented publicly since the news surfaced. With his wide-ranging experience in both sports and entertainment, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him pop up elsewhere on screen soon. As for Good Morning Football, viewers will be watching closely to see who fills the empty chair and what direction the show takes next.
