Ex-NFL Scout Sounds Off on Aaron Rodgers: ‘Huge Ego Who’s Just a Lost Soul’

Former NFL scout John Middlekauff did not hold back on Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a recent episode of 3 & Out. Middlekauff reviewed Rodgers’ Netflix documentary, ‘Aaron Rodgers: Enigma,’ calling it a “bizarre experience.”

“We all have issues. One thing I see a lot from my generation is the trauma we all had,” Middlekauff said. “Being a parent is hard. Most parents try their hardest. There’s no handbook to do any of this for the most part… Some people just kind of grow out of phases or can figure things out, like, holding on to this anger and this chip on my shoulder is something that’s not going to be that healthy.”

“There is a chip on Aaron Rodgers’ shoulder… Still be harboring this energy towards his childhood. You kind of feel it… He’s this troubled soul who really likes himself some Aaron Rodgers.”

Middlekauff went on to discuss his main takeaway from watching Enigma, and he was rather blunt in describing his feelings about the four-time NFL MVP.

“My takeaway watching this was like I just have a hard time seeing Tom [Brady] or Peyton [Manning] kind of act like this,” he said. “And a huge element of it is, you know, part of this was shot, it’s, he’s single, no family, no kids, obviously doesn’t talk to his family.

“Just feels like he’s kind of a lost soul with no family to lean on. And I do think as you age, as you get older, especially if you have the amount of disposable income, which you have in Aaron Rodgers’ situation, they have nothing to lean on.”

“And you’re just watching Aaron Rodgers, you’re like, ‘This guy feels kind of like a lost soul.’ A huge ego who’s just a lost soul.”

There’s a narrative attached to Rodgers that he isn’t the best teammate, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. New York Jets running back Breece Hall recently said on the Da Get Got Pod with Marshawn Lynch and Mike Robinson that the four-time NFL MVP was phenomenal in New York.

“Very misunderstood person,” Hall said. “Great dude, comes off to people a certain way. But once you really get to know him, you realize how good of a person he is. Last year, when you’re losing games, the blame gets put on the faces of the team, and it just so happened to be guys like me, Sauce [Gardner], Garrett [Wilson], Aaron [Rodgers], Quinnen [Williams], and Quincy [Williams].

“I feel like when you’re losing, somebody has to get let go — but what people don’t realize is when stuff is crazy organizationally, then it’s hard for players to have stability and win games. … But I love Aaron. Me and him still have a great relationship to this day. That’s my guy.”

Jets cornerbacK Sauce Gardner also recently praised Rodgers for his cerebral approach to the game. He knows the four-time MVP will be a massive challenge for the Jets in Week 1....
