The Pittsburgh Steelers have fielded plenty of standout defensive backs in their history, including Minkah Fitzpatrick, Rod Woodson and Mel Blount. Asked about his personal secondary Mount Rushmore, DeAngelo Hall slotted in another former coverman who wore black and gold.
“If we’re talking about Mount Rushmore, I have to put Darrell Green in there,” Hall told Hard Rock Bet. “I also have to include Ed Reed. Deion Sanders has to go in because when I got to the Falcons, I wanted to be like Deion in Atlanta. I’m going to be fair and go with two corners and two safeties. So, the other safety would be Troy Polamalu.”
Polamalu spent 12 seasons with the Steelers, appearing in 158 games, picking off 32 passes and notching 783 combined tackles. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.
Hall, a former Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders and Atlanta Falcons cornerback who played 14 NFL seasons, was also asked if there are any active defensive backs that could creep into that quartet by the time they hang their cleats up.
“Absolutely. One of them is Jalen Ramsey,” Hall said. “I’ve always been a huge fan of his. He’s a dude. … I know Jalen has played a bit of safety, too, because he can do a little bit of everything. But at the height of his career, there wasn’t a better lockdown corner.
“Maybe I love Jalen because I’m not 6’1″ and 210 pounds. I’m 5’10”. I just love a big corner who knows they’re big and wants to hit guys. He’s physical at the point of attack. He goes and gets the football. He’s great in man coverage, great in press, great in off. He’s really instinctual.”
