After some trade speculation and talks of possibly being cut from the team, the Washington Commanders have sent running back Brian Robinson Jr. to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Friday.
Robinson is the second notable offensive player the 49ers have traded for this week. San Francisco recently acquired receiver and former second-round pick Skyy Moore from the Chiefs in a trade that involved 2027 sixth- and seventh-round picks.
The news of Robinson’s trade hit social media like a wave.
Fans couldn’t help but notice that he was now on a team that also featured wideout Ricky Pearsall. Both stars have something traumatic in common.
Pearsall was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery in San Francisco in 2024. The suspect, a 17-year-old boy, was later charged with attempted murder, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and attempted second-degree robbery.
Pearsall was released from the hospital the next day.
As a member of the Commanders, Brian Robinson Jr. was shot twice in the lower body during an attempted armed robbery and carjacking in Washington, D.C. in 2022.
Robinson made a remarkable recovery and returned to play in his rookie season.

The veteran back is entering the final year of his rookie contract and has been the subject of trade rumors this summer.
The Commanders did not want to pay him, so they found a buyer and shipped Robinson to the Bay Area in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick.
