NFL fans are comparing new Washington Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel to a former star running back, and not exactly in the most flattering way.
In March, the Commanders acquired Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick. The 29-year-old is in the last season of a three-year, $71.5 million extension he signed in the 2022 offseason.
On Wednesday, Scott Abraham of 7News DC shared a video of Samuel making a couple of touchdown receptions in minicamp. However, some fans weren’t exactly impressed with what the tape showed.
More specifically, some fans are comparing Deebo Samuel to former Green Bay Packers star running back Eddie Lacy, who notably put on a lot of weight during the 2015 season. Listed at 231 pounds during his final college season at Alabama in 2012, Lacy reportedly weighed as much as 270 pounds when he visited the Seattle Seahawks in 2017.

Fans saw the videos of Samuel and believe he looks as slow as Lacy did over his last three NFL seasons:

Samuel is listed at 215 pounds, but it doesn’t look like he’s gained that much weight in the video shared by Abraham. And even if the Commanders want him to drop some weight, Samuel has three months to do so before Week 1 rolls around.
Jayden Daniels had arguably the best rookie quarterback season in history as the Commanders finished 12-5 and made a surprise run to the NFC Championship Game. And that was with Terry McLaurin as Daniels’ true game-changing pass-catcher.
With Samuel now slotting in as the No. 2 receiver, the Commanders’ offense has no clear-cut weaknesses. His game-changing abilities (as a wide receiver and a running back) might be the last piece Washington needs to win...
