ESPN made itself the butt of jokes on social media on Tuesday after ‘First Take’ highlighted a play from the Dallas Cowboys 2025 preseason that never happened. The play, while very real, is from two years ago and shows Dak Prescott launching a pass downfield to Brandin Cooks.
X user @FergSZN shared a video from the Cowboys 2023 training camp on Monday showing the pass mentioned above, claiming Prescott had thrown a bomb to new wide receiver George Pickens.
The tweet went viral, but many people caught on.
Sadly, we can’t say as much for ESPN as the clip made it to ‘First Take’ on Tuesday morning, with host Molly Qerim addressing it.
“They did make some moves this offseason, though, and one of them was wide receiver George Pickens being traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers,” she said while the video ran. “During the team’s first play of training camp, we saw Dak Prescott able to find Pickens for a massive touchdown.
“Obviously a great way to start the day.”

The network and its flagship show got roasted after the mistake.

“That’s how fn stupid @espn @FirstTake is. They prolly have someone that sucked their way to the production team and got the job. I’ll stick to the app. There’s less f**king idiots on that,” one comment read.

To be honest, we almost fell for it, too. But a little research goes a long way.
This isn’t to suggest that we’re more diligent than The Worldwide Leader in Sports. But we do check the comments.
