Matthew Golden is the Packers’ lone top 100 selection, according to Matt Miller
There are very few original forms of post-draft content out there, so I want to give a shoutout to an article that ESPN’s Matt Miller wrote last week, titled: Ranking the 100 best picks, steals, fits. Based on the top 100 “best picks” that Miller listed off from the 2025 NFL Draft, though, it’s pretty clear that he wasn’t a fan of what the Green Bay Packers did.
While over 40 percent of the total selections from the three-day draft made the top-100 cut, only one Packers selection, the drafting of Texas receiver Matthew Golden, was featured on his list. For perspective, 28 of the 32 first-round choices made in 2025 made Miller’s top 100 picks of the draft. So it’s not exactly like Golden beat the odds to make his list, either.
Here’s what Miller had to say about the Golden selection, which he ranked as the 21st-best pick of the draft:
The Packers waited 23 years between first-round receivers and got one of the fastest players to test at the combine. Golden ran a 4.29 40-yard dash in Indianapolis and led all FBS receivers last season with 23 receptions of 20 yards or more. He’ll join a young, talented Green Bay receiver room and give Jordan Love an intermediate and deep passing option.
And, yes, a player from each round was featured in this list. His top two picks were actually second-round draft choices, and a Day 3 pick made his top 10. So it wasn’t just that Miller didn’t like tackle Anthony Belton and/or receiver Savion Williams on Day 2, as the Packers had five selections on Day 3 of the draft, too.
Overall, draft analysts seem to believe that the Packers had a slightly below-average draft, based on at least 24 evaluators’ grades. The letter grade that these analysts handed Green Bay ranges from NFL.com’s A- grade to Fantasy Life’s D- grade, tied for the second-lowest grade handed out by any team by an evaluator this spring.
