No, it’s not yet “Draft Season” for the New York Giants. We’re taking a look at Jordan Reid’s new mock draft for ESPN, but we’re not overlooking the remainder of the Giants’ season by any means.
It’s unlikely that the 2-4 Giants will make the playoffs, but they’re still certainly capable of playing meaningful, and fun, football through the rest of the season. That has a lot to do with the fact that Jaxson Dart has seemingly revitalized the franchise and is 2-1 since being named the starter. It’s possible that the Giants could be a factor in the playoffs right through the end of the season, even if they’re a long-shot to make the postseason.
The rookie quarterback has been very impressive in his first three starts. It’s still too early to say that he’s the Giants’ new franchise quarterback, but the early returns are encouraging. Encouraging enough that it’s worth looking ahead to see how the Giants could build around Dart and keep adding to their young core of players.
That, of course, means the draft. And it is “Draft Season” for teams like the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets, which means that it’s also “Mock Draft Season”.
Which brings us back to Reid’s mock draft, and an opportunity to look at the state of the Giants’ roster.
Jordyn Tyson, WR, Arizona State*
Jaxson Dart is showing signs of being the Giants’ next franchise QB, so New York should help him by stocking up on playmakers. With Malik Nabers expected to recover fully from a torn right ACL in time for the 2026 season, drafting Tyson would give Dart another security blanket and a potent one-two punch at wide receiver. Tyson has 47 catches for 523 yards and seven touchdowns this season. It was tempting to go with one of the right tackles (Spencer Fano or Francis Mauigoa) here to fill that hole, but ultimately I decided on Tyson.
Bottom line up front: Jordyn Tyson is a good pick who could help the Giants immediately. He has traits that should allow him to start right away, and fit well with Nabers in the Giants’ offense. But they should only draft him only if they’re confident in the offensive tackles on the roster and there isn’t a good tackle prospect available.
I don’t object to the pick of Jordyn Tyson in a vacuum.
The Giants absolutely need to build around Dart, and having a 1b receiver to pair with Nabers could take the Giants’ offense to the upper echelons in the NFL. Tyson has solid size at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, and leads the Big-12 in receptions (47) and touchdowns (7) after six games. He also has 523 yards (11.1 yards per reception). He has a reputation as a player with a high football IQ as well as a savvy receiver. He can play every receiver position and win at multiple areas of the field thanks to...
