The Los Angeles Rams are ready to win the Super Bowl during the 2026 season. LA just traded for Myles Garrett, pairing him with MVP QB Matthew Stafford and a high-powered offense. One NFL insider warned that one possible scenario could torpedo LA’s ambitions later this fall.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano called out one area of concern surrounding Stafford during a recent article. He warned that Stafford’s health could present a big problem for the team’s Super Bowl ambitions.
“What am I so worried about? Well, Stafford is 38 years old. He managed his back issue well, but it’s still something that has to be monitored — and my personal experience tells me back issues don’t get better as you get older,” Graziano wrote. “Add to this the fact that the backup looks like it’ll be Ty Simpson, the very controversial 13th pick who is there more for the future than for the present.”
Stafford has been an iron man with injuries throughout his career. However, his recent back issues could be concerning as he keeps getting older.
The veteran quarterback dealt with a back injury during the 2025 offseason that lingered into the beginning of the regular season. LA was able to manage Stafford’s injury early in the season, but it still impacted him throughout the season.
There was speculation that Stafford might need a herniated disk surgery this offseason after playing through injury in 2025. Fortunately, Stafford did not need to have that surgery. However, it does make it clear that Graziano is talking about a legitimate concern surrounding the Rams.
If Stafford does suffer an injury in 2026, backup Ty Simpson could be thrust into action.
