The Buffalo Bills have a lot to be excited about ahead of the 2026 season. Buffalo still has one of the better rosters in the NFL and will christen a brand new stadium this fall. But one ESPN analyst is not as optimistic about Buffalo’s offensive talent after the offseason.
ESPN’s Bill Barnwell ranked every single skill position group in the NFL in his latest article. He could not pass up the opportunity to slam the DJ Moore trade once again.
Barnwell ranked Buffalo as having the 29th best skill position group in the league. That puts them firmly in the bottom five. He complimented running back James Cook, but is clearly skeptical of the rest of Buffalo’s receivers.
“Beyond Cook, it remains difficult to get excited about Buffalo’s receiving corps, even after the addition of DJ Moore,” Barnwell wrote. “While some of the issues surrounding the decision to acquire Moore have to do with factors such as trade value and contract terms — which aren’t being considered here — there have to be real questions about whether Moore is still a difference-maker as he turns 29.”
Barnwell previously trashed the Moore trade, claiming the Bills paid too much for an expensive, declining asset.
“Moore is coming off what was comfortably his worst season as a pro, one in which he seemingly fell out of favor with Ben Johnson in the Chicago offense… the Bills sent a second-round pick to the Bears for Moore. That was already a curious choice by Beane,” Barnwell wrote back in May. “Even more inexplicably, the Bills ate all of the salary that was already owed to Moore and then guaranteed their new wideout $13.5 million in 2028, committing money three years down the line to a player who had no leverage as part of this trade.”
The Bills do have Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid as playmakers on offense.
Ultimately, this article could become bulletin board material in Buffalo. It will be exciting to see if the Bills can exceed expectations later this fall.
