As we stand on the eve of the Green Bay Packers’ second preseason game of 2025, I find myself sitting here with a bunch of unpublished thoughts and unposted clips from last week’s opener against the New York Jets. So let’s just throw them here and see where the wind takes us. I already did a deep dive into Jordan Love’s 7 dropbacks, so we won’t be talking about him in this space. If you haven’t already, give that a look.

When I go back through the game, I’m typically just watching specific players and see how they look. So that’s what we’re doing here. Let’s go.

Barryn Sorrell (#99, Defensive End)

Played solely as a hand-in-the-dirt DE. He had one rep from a 2 point stance, but I think that was because they snapped it while he was shifting. All 3 & 4 point stances.

Wide array of pass rush moves. Good hands. Plays well against the leverage of the man across from him. Would love to see how he looks when going against starters.

Some good reps against the run, but more where he’s washed out. Played DE in the 3-4 and was playing inside when a linebacker rolled to his side. Those didn’t go well for him.

When not hemmed into the middle, he showed a nice patience on runs, giving himself good vision before attacking.

Strong, but may be a little too small to be anything more than a situational pass rusher out of the gate. Still, those 10-12 snaps a game – combined with his presence on special teams – should be a lot of fun to watch. Could turn into a nice player down the line, but probably a limited role for now. Fun player.

Matthew Golden (#22, Wide Receiver)

Cool player, man. We didn’t see much of him, but he showed off some nuance in his route-running. Smooth and explosive.

Due to his size, I don’t think he’ll ever be a lockdown blocker, but he gave effort when asked. He even worked as an insert blocker on a rep, which is typically something they do with Watson or Wicks. Probably don’t want to see him doing that too often, but the fact that they’re trying it out in his limited preseason snaps tells me they’re looking for ways to get him on the field in as many ways as possible.

Jordan Morgan (#77, Left Tackle)

Some good, some bad. Doesn’t always lock in throughout the rep, letting his guy go instead of playing through the whistle. Secondary anchor is better than it looked at Family Night.

They didn’t ask him to do much in the run game: no pulling under the line that I saw. There was one rep of him getting out on the edge where he released well and smoothly, then just kinda forgot to block anyone.

A solid if unspectacular showing. I certainly feel better about him now than I did after seeing him at Family Night.
