For pretty much all of Eli Manning’s NFL career, everyone thought Peyton was the funny brother in the family. Since his retirement, it has become pretty clear that Eli Manning was hiding a brilliant sense of humor the whole time.
Once Eli Manning started posting on social media, and even more so when he and Peyton started the Manningcast on ESPN, it also became very apparent that one of the quietest guys in the NFL during his playing career is actually an elite trash talker.
This past weekend the NHL made the smart move to mic up not only Eli Manning at the New Jersey Devils vs. Carolina Hurricanes playoff game, they also mic’d up his daughters who were there at the game with him. The result of this stroke of genius was a priceless and hilarious video.
The video begins with Eli Manning explaining that many hockey players like to grow a “playoff beard” this time of year. He then pointed out to one of his daughters that he too was growing one and asked her what she thought of it.
“Horrible,” she replied with a straight face. Then he asked his daughter if she was growing a playoff beard and she looked at him like she had never been more insulted in all of her life. It only got better from there.
The three Mannings went on to talk about things like giving the referee a “death stare,” the weird noises Eli makes while watching a hockey game, and most importantly, at least according to Eli, to not flinch when a puck hits the glass directly in front of them – something that the former Giants quarterback completely fails at when it actually happens.
Forget the NFL Manningcast. We need an NHL Manningcast with Eli and his two daughters.
