The Patriots reportedly will hire Josh McDaniels as offensive coordinator and quickly shifted their focus on filling his staff.
Alex Van Pelt and T.C. McCartney’s futures are up in the air with McDaniels’ arrival. It’s reportedly expected a quarterbacks coach could be named, but there’s no guarantee of who that will be.
McDaniels runs an adaptable but complex system so it will be important for the Patriots to fill out their staff correctly. The 48-year-old also likely will want his guys on his staff, and he could choose from these eight names (listed in no particular order).
Edgar Bennett
Bennett has been the Las Vegas Raiders wide receivers coach since 2018. He overlapped with McDaniels when he was the head coach, and he also overlapped with Eliot Wolf with the Green Bay Packers. He also has experience as a running backs coach and offensive coordinator.
Carmen Bricillo
Bricillo made the jump to the NFL coaching ranks in 2019 as a Patriots coaching assistant. He rose to become the offensive line coach in 2021 and followed McDaniels to the Raiders where he served the same role. He was hired to as New York Giants offensive line coach for the 2024 season.
Cameron Clemmons
Another potential offensive line coach, Clemons served as assistant offensive line coach under McDaniels at the Raiders.
Bo Hardegree
Hardegree was an offensive assistant in New England in 2021 and was a quarterbacks coach with Las Vegas under McDaniels.
Mick Lombardi
The son of Michael Lombardi, Mick Lombardi served as assistant quarterbacks coach and then wide receivers coach in his three years in Foxboro, Mass. He also was a scouting assistant for the Patriots before becoming a coach. The 36-year-old was McDaniels’ offensive coordinator in Las Vegas.
Chad O’Shea
O’Shea has familiarity with McDaniels and Mike Vrabel. The 52-year-old was New England’s wide receivers coach from 2009-2018 before becoming the Dolphins’ offensive coordinator when Brian Flores became Miami’s head coach in 2019. He’s been the Cleveland Browns’ wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator since 2020, so he’s had one year of overlap with Vrabel.
Jerry Schuplinski
Schuplinski is another longtime Patriot. The 47-year-old started in New England as an offensive assistant before following O’Shea and Flores to become Dolphins assistant quarterbacks coach. He followed McDaniels to the Raiders serving multiple roles including tight ends coach.
Scott Turner
Turner was retained after the Raiders fired McDaniels and was elevated to interim offensive coordinator after serving as passing game coordinator.
