The San Francisco 49ers appear to have struck gold at kicker. Eddy Pineiro missed his first extra point attempt. The instant reaction was, “Here we go again.” Since that Kick, Pineiro has made every PAT and all 11 of his field goal attempts.
Pineiro was the NFC’s Week 5 Special Teams Player of the Week, becoming the third kicker on the 49ers to earn the honor in the past decade. Jake Moody won it in Week 1 of 2024. Robbie Gould was a seven-time winner. For Pineiro, it’s the fourth time during his career that he’s won this award.
Pineiro made all four of his field goal attempts against the Los Angeles Rams from 20, 37, 41, and 59 yards. The 59-yarder had a few yards to spare, too. It came on a drive where the 49ers were backed up in their own territory. A miss, and Pineiro would’ve all but guaranteed points for the Rams. Instead, Kyle Shanahan’s confidence in his kicker ended up being the difference in the game.
