Aaron Rodgers is headed to the Steelers.
It was the biggest news of the NFL this week. The last time Rodgers signed with a new team, he was traded to the New York Jets. He got just about everything he wanted to ensure he could be successful there.
To accommodate Aaron Rodgers, they hired coaches he wanted to work with and made trades and free agent signings to bring his friends aboard.
Everything seemed to be pointing the same way for him in Pittsburgh, which meant bringing in one of his best friends in Allen Lazard.
Unfortunately for the veteran quarterback, it does not appear the Steelers will be bending the knee for him.
After reports surfaced that Aaron Rodgers had told the Steelers he would sign, Mike Florio pointed to Allen Lazard as staying right where he was.
Per Pro Football Talk:
“Jets receiver Allen Lazard is “in play” to be acquired via trade, now that quarterback Aaron Rodgers has agreed to terms.
But there’s an important question to consider before automatically reuniting Rodgers and Lazard, again: Does Lazard want to do that?
Lazard has a well-earned reputation for being two different players. With Rodgers, good. Without Rodgers, not. …
Per a source with knowledge of Lazard’s thinking, he sees a very real potential benefit to proving his ability to function at an acceptable level without Rodgers as his quarterback.”
Allen Lazard, known for his robust play and ability to secure touchdowns, could bring a new dynamic to the Steelers’ receiving corps.
However, just because Aaron Rodgers wants him does not mean that the team will give up anything to make it happen.
As Allen Lazard prepares potentially to don the Steelers’ colors, the implications of this move will be closely watched by analysts and fans alike.
After a months-long wait, we finally have clarity on the future of four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The 41-year-old passer told the Pittsburgh Steelers that he will be signing with the team before mandatory minicamp.
The Steelers went 10-7 last year with a combination of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields as quarterbacks.
Pittsburgh had a winning season for the fifth year in a row but lost to Baltimore, an AFC North foe, in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
Aaron Rodgers will likely be the starter over Mason Rudolph, rookie Will Howard and Skylar Thompson.
But how much did this move improve the Steelers’ title chances?
Following the report that Rodgers will sign with the Steelers, oddsmakers at DraftKings moved Pittsburgh to +4000 to win the Super Bowl in the 2025 season.
