Why is it that the Denver Broncos are so often inclined to assist the Seattle Seahawks in every which way? In the 2009 NFL Draft, Josh McDaniels, et al, were desperate to draft a cornerback by the name of Alphonso Smith.
The Broncos, in their mind, needed to move up in the second round to secure the pick before, well, someone else snatched Smith up. They called the ‘Hawks and proposed a trade, using their 2010 first round pick to seal the deal. Seattle, in turn, used that pick to add safety Earl Thomas and helped propel McDaniels to his first set of unemployment checks.
Earl Thomas, Texas-born and raised, quickly became arguably the most vital, curious, and indelible element to a Seahawks defense that is easily considered one of, if not the, best of all-time. The fact that he’s been considered a semi-finalist for the Hall is epic in it’s own right and is the first of most likely a wave of Seattle Seahawks from the Love Our Brothers-era who will be inevitably inducted. Let us recognize and celebrate the human missile that is Mr. Thomas, and revel in our undeserved fortune. Thank you, Based God.
