The Philadelphia Eagles have plenty of expectations heading into the 2025 season on the heels of a dominant run to winning the Super Bowl last year, and after losing plenty of talent in the offseason to free agency, some guys need to step up to fill in the voids left behind.

The top of the wide receiver depth chart is set in stone with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but it’s unclear who is going to fill in around them, and that issue got a bit more unclear this week as one receiver suffered a season-ending injury.

Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Jeff McLane shared on Thursday on X that Johnny Wilson is set to undergo season-ending surgery on both his ankle and knee after suffering a bad injury in practice on Tuesday.

It’s a tough break for Wilson as the 2024 sixth-round pick was in the mix to see more snaps in 2025 while competing with guys like Jahan Dotson and newcomer John Metchie III for reps.

The 24-year-old caught three passes for 73 yards last season in his rookie campaign out of Florida State, where he posted 41 catches for 617 yards.

He had a strong year in 2022 at FSU with 43 catches for 897 yards and five touchdowns after transferring over from Arizona State.

At 6’6″, Wilson is the type of huge target that Jalen Hurts doesn’t have elsewhere in this wide receiver room, so it’s a shame that element of the offense will now be missing.

Hopefully, this is just a minor setback for Wilson, and he can get back in time to continue his ascension up the depth chart next offseason.
