Philadelphia’s young players could be a big factor in this matchup.
The Eagles find themselves in their second NFC Championship Game in three years. This time it’s the division rival Washington Commanders that stand between them and a Super Bowl. The Eagles can end Washington’s Cinderella story ... but it won’t be easy. Here is what to watch from Philly’s rookies.
The Eagles got diced up by Jayden Daniels in their last meeting. The rookie sensation ate Philly’s defense alive through the air and on the ground. In that game, Quinyon Mitchell gave up his first touchdown of the whole season. Mitchell now is nursing a shoulder injury while being set to suit up for the biggest game of his life. Hopefully, Mitchell is not hindered and can have a redemption game to lock down Terry McLaurin and company.
Cooper DeJean is integral to the Eagles defense. Especially so in this game. Washington has a bunch of weapons to test the middle of the field while also having a deadly rushing attack. DeJean’s run defense has been a strength all year and he will need to bring his A-game once again, while also limiting catches in the middle of the field.
Stifling Jayden Daniels is basically the lone key to this game. Part of that will be tight coverage on Washington’s weapons, and part of that will be generating immediate pressure on the rookie sensation. Jalyx Hunt had a great hustle sack against Los Angeles but they’ll need more immediate pressure from the rookie, on the rookie. Those quick hurries can hopefully force Daniels into mistakes.
