Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts may have reached the NFL mountaintop in February, but he’s not using championship glory as a reason to relive the past.

Jalen Hurts was named Super Bowl 59 MVP after leading the Eagles to a 40-22 blowout win over Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs. Hurts completed 17 pass attempts for 221 yards, two touchdowns and one interception to go along with a game-high 72 rushing yards and one rushing score.

The Eagles were gifted their Super Bowl 59 rings last week. But some fans on X/Twitter noticed that Hurts wasn’t wearing his championship ring during photos with teammates, owner Jeffrey Lurie and head coach Nick Sirianni.

Speaking to reporters about the decision to keep the ring off his finger, Jalen Hurts gave a Bill Belichick-style answer, per the @PHLEaglesNation X account.

“I’ve moved on to the new year. It’s as simple as that. It was surreal to see it in person. Almost nostalgic, to see something that you’ve earned. To see something one last time. Kind of overdue in terms of when it was supposed to be initially. It was a moment, but that moment is behind us.”

During his run with the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick always loved stressing the importance of focusing on the new season. He didn’t want to live in the moment of championship glory, famously chanting “No Days Off” during the Patriots’ Super Bowl 51 parade.

It appears that Jalen Hurts has adopted a similar mindset. The Eagles have had five months now to celebrate their Super Bowl 59 title, but with training camp underway, the focus has shifted to 2025.

Jalen Hurts & Eagles Open 2025 Season vs. Dallas Cowboys

Hurts and the Eagles will kick off the Super Bowl championship defense on Sept. 4, when they play host to Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field.

The home team has only lost six matchups since the NFL Kickoff Game tradition was implemented in 2002, though the Cowboys were one of the road team victors when they visited the defending champion New York Giants in 2012.
