The Philadelphia Eagles saw a massive offseason exodus on the defensive side of the ball after winning their second Super Bowl championship in franchise history. They said goodbye to Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Darius Slay and Brandon Graham. Because of that, the Eagles will want to shore up their defense for the future, and one NFL analyst predicts Philadelphia will sign a former first-round pick to an extension this season.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano wouldn’t be surprised if the Eagles ink defensive tackle Jordan Davis before the season ends. Davis has been having a Pro Bowl-caliber season with one sack, three pass breakups, two tackles for loss and a blocked field goal return for a touchdown. Pro Football Focus has Davis at a 72.1 overall grade — good for 32nd out of 186 interior defensive linemen.
“I have my eye on defensive tackle Jordan Davis, who is playing well in his fourth season and is extension-eligible. The Eagles picked up his fifth-year option for 2026, so they have time to figure out what they want to do,” writes Graziano. “But with fellow DT Jalen Carter eligible for an extension next offseason and defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean the offseason after that, it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Eagles try to get ahead of things and get some cost certainty on Davis.”
Davis, who was the 13th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has had an up-and-down start to his career but came into 2025 in better shape in an effort to prove he’s one of the best in the league. After his defensive snap count dropped from 45% in 2023 to 37% in 2024, it’s up to 63% through the first five games as Vic Fangio has entrusted him with a larger role.
In 52 career games, Davis has recorded 4.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, seven pass breakups and 109 tackles.
It would behoove general manager Howie Roseman to get an extension done with Davis before the season ends. If not, they risk watching him walk out the door the same way Sweat and Williams did.
