Frustration is mounting as the Philadelphia Eagles have lost two straight games with their offense continuing to struggle heading into their Week 7 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Now, one anonymous player is warning that it’s starting to feel like the 2023 collapse.

After their Thursday night embarrassment at the hands of NFC East rival New York Giants, where they were outplayed and outcoached, questions arose about what’s plaguing the squad that’s eight months removed from winning the Super Bowl. Specifically, what’s wrong with an offense featuring Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith?

All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson told reporters that the offense has been getting too “predictable.” Philadelphia’s offense ranks 30th in total yards (274.5 per game), 29th in passing yards (179.2) and 25th in rushing yards (95.3). Barkley has yet to run for 100 yards in a game, and Brown has two games with two or fewer catches and eight or fewer receiving yards.

Echoes of 2023 Collapse

New offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo is already on the hot seat, similar to what happened with Brian Johnson, who was the OC for the 2023 Eagles team that started 10-1 before collapsing, losing six out of their last seven games, including the Wild Card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Johnson was fired after the season.

One player told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler after the loss to the Giants that he’s starting to see similarities to that meltdown.

“I was at the game against the Giants on Thursday night and definitely sensed concern. One player told me that this is starting to feel like the 2023 meltdown all over again (when Philadelphia lost five of its last six games), and the team needs to use this week to figure things out and avoid a full-blown repeat,” Fowler reports. “Right tackle Lane Johnson, whose words carry weight, told reporters that the offense felt predictable. The issue is pretty clear: The Eagles aren’t dominating in the running game the way they did a year ago.”

It has to be incredibly concerning for head coach Nick Sirianni that any player believes the team is on the verge of a second collapse in three seasons. If that happens again, not only will Patullo’s job be in jeopardy, so will Sirianni’s, despite winning a championship.
