The Philadelphia Eagles had to make a move.

They just traded for Sam Howell, acquiring him with a 2026 sixth-round pick in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round selection.

That’s why they had no choice but to part ways with former Georgia star Lewis Cine, according to Ari Meirov.

Cine, who was a first-round pick and a star in college, made a highlight play in the preseason finale with a diving interception in the win over the New York Jets.

Unfortunately, he was injured shortly after, thus becoming expendable.

He was always a long shot to make the roster.

The Eagles signed him ahead of Wild Card weekend last season alongside Byron Young.

The Vikings took Cine with the No. 32 pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

So far, injuries have prevented him from fulfilling his potential, breaking his leg during his rookie season and playing just a handful of snaps in his two-year tenure in the Twin Cities.

They released him last summer, and he joined the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and 199 pounds, the Haitian native looked poised to be a turnover-forcing machine after dominating with the Bulldogs, even earning defensive MVP honors in the national championship game against Alabama four years ago.

Now, he will look to get back on his feet, and since he’s still young, he’s more than worth the risk, even with a history of injuries.

As for the Eagles, Howell will most likely be Jalen Hurts’ primary backup, as Tanner McKee is dealing with an injury.
