At first glance, the NFC Championship Game seems to be one the Philadelphia Eagles are supposed to win against the Washington Commanders.
The Eagles are more talented on both sides of the football, and they have more postseason experience, including an appearance in the Super Bowl just two years ago.
But after pulling off a stunning win against the heavily favored Detroit Lions in the divisional round, the Commanders are a real threat to upset the Eagles.
However, one historical factoid strongly favors the Eagles in the matchup.
“The Eagles have the No. 1 scoring and total defense including playoffs. Teams with those numbers playing at home on Championship Sunday are 4-0 in the last 20 years,” Trey Wingo wrote on X.
There are so many numbers to look at but these stood out to me looking at the NFC Title game: The @Eagles have the #1 scoring and total defense including playoffs. Teams with those number playing at HOME on Championship Sunday are 4-0 in the last 20 years. pic.twitter.com/BIkUAOKry3

Last season, the Eagles started 10-1 but collapsed by losing five of their last six games and falling to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
There were rumors that head coach Nick Sirianni could lose his job, but the team instead got itself new offensive and defensive coordinators while going out and spending to sign running back Saquon Barkley.
Barkley has had a season for the ages, and the defense, which was weak in 2023, became very stingy again, allowing the team to finish with a 14-3 record in the regular season.
Since their Week 5 bye, the Eagles have given up more than 20 points in just three games while holding opponents to fewer than 10 points four times.
