Tailgate Ted was on D.C. radio Tuesday morning. He’s the guy who organized the Commie fan “take over” of the Hard Rock Cafe. T.T. talked about how he lives rent free in our heads and patted himself on the back for staying for the entire NFC Championship Game and not leaving early. He also pointed out that he’s been raising money for charity all season long, and in a perfect turn of events, Eagles fans are now donating to his fundraiser while ribbing him at the same time:
Hilarious. You couldn’t write a better script. Tailgate Ted comes into Philly, takes over a tourist restaurant that nobody actually goes to, then the Birds put a double nickel on the Commies and Ted hears it while walking up the steps. Next thing you know, he’s on a postmortem media tour and Eagles fans find his fundraiser and kick in what looks to be a few hundred dollars already.
Let’s see if we can flood Ted’s fundraiser with “Go Birds” messages. I put in five bucks and wrote something like “I hate pickleball.” This is for a good cause, so it’s an opportunity to do something nice and chirp this guy one more time. A classic two-fer.

This season we are raising funds to help tackle Lung Cancer!
This years fundraiser is personal for us. On August 22, 2014, Billy Potts, a life long Washington fan, lost his 15 month battle with lung cancer at the age of 48. Billy was a diehard fan who attended many games at RFK and FedEx Field. Billy was also the father of Hail BBQ crew member Caitlyn Potts.
This season the Crew is honoring Billy’s memory by working to raise money for the LUNGevity Foundation!
Over the past 20+ years our tailgate has been giving back to the community in various ways. Below are just a few things we have managed to do as a group.
- We collected several tons worth of canned goods for victims of Hurricane Harvey.
- We cooked meals for the homeless on Christmas morning.
- We raised money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and more importantly worked to find donors for those affected by blood cancer.
- Last season we raised over $7500 for Breast Cancer.
Proceeds from this event will benefit LUNGevity Foundation, the leading private provider of research funding for lung cancer.
Please join us in our efforts to stop lung cancer—the leading cancer killer—now!
