10-year-old Trey Howard was one of 24 people injured last Friday when a medical transport jet crashed in North Philadelphia and the young Eagles fan took shrapnel to his head while trying to protect his younger sister. In true Philly fashion, when he awoke from emergency brain surgery he had two concerns: did he save his sister and did he miss the Eagles in the Super Bowl.
Speaking with Philly’s ABC 7 Eyewitness News, Trey Howard’s dad, Andre Howard Jr., shared how proud he was of his son for looking after his sister and how when Trey woke up from emergency brain surgery the first thing he asked about was if he’d missed the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX because he didn’t know what day it was.
Andrew Howard Jr. was out with his three children, aged 4, 7, and 10, to get donuts when the plane crash occurred. He told ABC 7 that it “sounded like a missile was firing bullets, metal at my car, everyone else’s car. You see a car on fire, a man walking on fire. It was just crazy.”
Dad said when he turned around there was metal sticking out of his son’s head. A truly nightmarish scenario for any father.
10-year-old Trey was rushed to the hospital with the help of an officer and prepped for emergency brain surgery where doctors told the family there was “a strong chance he might not survive.” But he did. And he’s doing great now and his family spoke with the local news:
Upon waking up, Trey asked his dad if he’d missed the Super Bowl. Andre Howard Jr. says “he asked me, ‘Daddy, what’s today?’ I was like, ‘Monday.’ ‘OK, wait. We didn’t play yesterday did we?’ ‘No, you didn’t miss the Super Bowl.'”
He then asked “daddy, did I save my sister? You told us to get down. I was just trying to help my sister… next thing I know, I thought I died.”
This boy DID save his sister
He took metal to the head protecting her and he miraculously survived
And when he came to, was worried he missed the Eagles in the Super Bowl

Sixers All-Star point guard Tyrese Maxey has already visited 10-year-old Trey in the hospital as the city now rallies around his story.
And while he recovers at the hospital, he’ll presumably get to watch his Eagles take on Kansas City this Sunday in Super Bowl LIX. Surely, members from the Eagles’ organization have heard about his story by now but if they haven’t, it wouldn’t hurt for some of you to share this story with them by tagging them on social media to help and get the word out there.
