There’s no shortage of game-used memorabilia collectors can get their hands on if they want to commemorate a memorable event. However, the Eagles may have dreamed up one of the most unique collectibles you’ll ever encounter in the form of containers of “authenticated snow” from their victory over the Rams.
20 of the 30 teams that comprise the NFL play in outdoor stadiums that aren’t equipped with any measures to shield players and fans from the elements if inclement weather rolls around on gameday, and the vast majority of those venues are located in regions where the threat of snow is very real during the coldest months of the year.
There are plenty of people who’d argue franchises should take that factor into consideration when designing a new stadium (the Bears and Browns did exactly that for the ones they’re planning on moving to in the not-so-distant future, although the Bills mercifully opted to forgo a dome for the new home that’s currently under construction), but I don’t know how you can watch one of the many Snow Bowls we’ve been treated to over the years and think something needs to change.
There was a light coating of snow on the field in Buffalo when the Bills beat the Ravens in the AFC Divisional round on Sunday, but there was a borderline blizzard brewing in Philadelphia when the Eagles hosted the Rams for their NFC Divisional showdown.
A.J. Brown was decidedly displeased with the weather both teams were forced to endure, but those subpar conditions didn’t prevent Saquon Barkley from once again running it down the throat of an opposing team by rushing for 205 yards with the help of the 62 and 78-yard touchdown runs that propelled his squad to the 28-22 win and the right to face off against the Commanders for a spot in the Super Bowl.
There was plenty of snow on the field at The Linc when the game wrapped up, and some of it was scooped up out of the end zone before being placed in the containers the Eagles are currently selling for $50 a pop for any fans who want one of the strangest mementos you’ll ever encounter.
The snow can be picked up at the stadium’s ticket office, but if you’re not able to make the trek, you can pay an additional $15 to get it shipped to your doorstep in a box containing an ample amount of dry ice to ensure it’s still frozen when it arrives.
What a world.
