EA Sports totally disrespected Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers after adding him to ‘Madden 26.’
On Monday, news broke that the Colts were bringing in Philip Rivers for a workout after losing Comeback Player of the Year candidate Daniel Jones for the season with a torn Achilles. Rivers was signed to the practice squad, and there’s a chance of him starting this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
Backup quarterback Anthony Richardson is still on the injured reserve, and third-stringer Riley Leonard is dealing with a knee injury and may not be available. Leonard relieved Jones in Sunday’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
With Philip Rivers back in the game, EA Sports wasted little time adding him to the Colts’ roster in ‘Madden 26.’ For some reason, they made Rivers look obese, slow and incredibly out of shape:

He also has a rating of 70, so make of that as you will:

Rivers hasn’t played an NFL snap since Jan. 2021, retiring after his Colts fell to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card Round.
In his final season, Rivers threw for 4,169 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, per Pro Football Reference. He led the Colts to an 11-5 finish, their most recent playoff appearance to date.
Rivers may be nearing his 44th birthday. And yes, he hasn’t played in five years. Still, there’s good reason to think he can keep the offense afloat if he ends up starting for Shane Steichen.
The Chargers legend joins an offense led by rushing leader Jonathan Taylor, star wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and standout rookie tight end Tyler Warren. The Colts also bolster one of the league’s best offensive lines, led by All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson.
We’re not saying Rivers will return to his Pro Bowl form, but he should at least excel in a game manager-like role if the Colts put him behind center. He’s certainly an upgrade over the unproven Leonard.
