Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback Dylan Raiola swears that he’s definitely, totally not trying to cosplay as Kansas City Chiefs superstar QB Patrick Mahomes. But the latest bit of evidence doesn’t do much to support Raiola’s claim. If anything, it only makes the similarities between the two even more strange.

Raiola, a five-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, drew immediate comparisons to Mahomes when he showed up on campus and later showed up to the Huskers’ first game of the season against UTEP looking exactly like the Chiefs quarterback.

Raiola swore that he wasn’t trying to imitate the NFL’s best player.

“A lot of people think I want to be just like him, but honestly, I grew up and I played baseball, never liked football,” he said. “As a kid I always wore glasses and I’ve had this haircut since sixth, seventh grade maybe and I didn’t know about Mahomes then. I have my own little kick to it. That guy is one of the best, so it’s cool, but I try to mimic my game after myself. If you want to get somewhere you have to see and know what it takes to get there and I think he’s done more than enough to see what it takes. I just try to do my thing.”

Now, we’d love to believe Raiola. But here’s the problem. From that point in he did nothing to dispel the idea that he wasn’t just trying really, really hard to be Patrick Mahomes from Temu. Mahomes embraced the idea, stating that it was “cool” for younger players to imitate him the way he did with others when he was a kid.

But on Sunday, things got a bit weird.

After the Chiefs’ 32-29 victory over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game, Raiola somehow found his way into the Kansas City locker room and was celebrating with the team.

“That ain’t Pat.”

We can only imagine that he was a guest of Mahomes for the game. Neither Raiola’s father Dominic or uncle Donovan, both of whom played in the NFL, have ties to the Chiefs.

So what’s going on here? Is this some sort of apprentice program? Is Raiola just following Mahomes around everywhere? We know one thing is true, he can’t pretend to be unaware of what’s happening anymore.
