The New England Patriots are entering the 2025 campaign with the hopes that they can take a step towards reemerging as the playoff contender they often were during their dynastic run to begin the century. Throughout that run, hundreds of key contributors made their mark on the Patriots, with one of them being safety Duron Harmon.
A third-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Harmon established himself as a key piece of the Patriots’ secondary from the get-go. Early in his career, Harmon earned himself the nickname “The Closer” for his penchant for coming up with clutch interceptions that helped New England close out several victories.
Harmon spent the first seven years of his career with the Patriots, and he played a key role in helping the team win its three most recent Super Bowl championships. After getting traded in 2020, Harmon would close out his career playing for the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, Las Vegas Raiders, Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns.
After spending the 2024 campaign out of football, Harmon announced his decision to retire from the NFL on Wednesday morning. In an exclusive interview with Owen Crisafulli, Harmon revealed what’s next as he rides off into the sunset.
“Just spending more time with family, being able to have the flexibility of a schedule to be there at every event for my wife and my kids,” Harmon said. “We started a nonprofit seven-on-seven travel football team that we’ve been doing since 2016, and now, we’re in a position to where we want to continue to grow that … And then I also have a trucking company as well, so that takes up my day-to-day with a fleet of 14 trucks.”
After playing an important role in the second half of the Patriots’ dynasty, Harmon’s legacy with the team is secure. And while his days as a player are over, it doesn’t look like things are slowing down for the former safety, as he has several projects on his plate that he will be working on in the immediate future.
