Dre Greenlaw suspended for one game

Dre Greenlaw suspended for one game

After the Denver Broncos historic comeback win over the New York Giants, inside linebacker Dre Greenlaw — like many of us fans — couldn’t let go of the fact that the officiating on the Giants final drive was horrendous and nearly cost Denver that game. He chased after referee Brad Allen and verbally threatened him.

During the altercation, threats were made and the NFL has decided to suspend Greenlaw for one game without pay. Greenlaw has already appealed.

In case you missed that final Giants drive, they called a roughing the passer penalty that looked more like incidental contact on a 4th and 19 that was clearly caught well short of the line. However, that official immediately decided it was a first down anyway. Those were close enough to be forgivable, but the pass interference call on Riley Moss was absolutely garbage and would have decided the game had Bo Nix not been in another dimension on the field in that fourth quarter.

While the threat was clearly unsportsmanlike and unnecessary after the game-winning field goal, I see nothing wrong with letting these refs know that they are ruining the brand by making such horrible and embarrassing calls at the game’s most critical junctures.

Greenlaw will be suspended a full game with no pay for his actions. He’ll miss the Broncos’ Week 8 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. I suppose the positive here is that Greenlaw will miss a game not due to injury, but due to being fed up with bad officiating. I suppose this fan can accept that reasoning.

What are your thoughts on this suspension? It seems pretty clearly warranted and maybe Greenlaw got away with one by getting just a single game suspension for it.
