Drake Maye is on the path to firmly cement himself as one of the best passers in the NFL.
In fact, the second-year quarterback is already being mentioned as an MVP candidate. After all, Maye is just the fourth quarterback in NFL history to notch 200 passing yards and a quarterback rating over 100 in five straight games at age 23 or younger. The quarterback also has the Patriots at 4-2 and firmly in contention.
However, on Monday, Maye downplayed any MVP discussions.
“Oh shoot. Nah, I’ve got a lot of work to do,” Maye said on WEEI Afternoons. “I think that’s a long way away. Getting some more wins is what I’m focused on.”
The betting markets think Maye has a good shot at winning it, though. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Maye has the sixth-shortest odds to win the award at +1600.
So far in 2025, Maye has thrown for 1,522 yards with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. The quarterback has also rushed for 138 yards and two scores while completing 73.2% of his passes. Maye has thrown for at least 200 yards in each game this season.
Through Week 6, Matthew Stafford, Dak Prescott, Sam Darnold, and Baker Mayfield are the only quarterbacks who have thrown for more yards than Maye. He’s second in completion percentage (73.2), fourth in yards per attempt (8.5), and fourth in quarterback rating (112.5) through six games.
Of course, there is still plenty of football left to be played in 2025. It certainly helps that the Buffalo Bills fell on Monday Night Football, which means the Patriots are now in first place in the AFC East.
The next test for Maye and the Patriots will be against the Tennessee Titans in Week 7. Mike Vrabel is returning to take on the team that fired just two years ago.
