Drake Maye and Cam Newton have beef. The starting quarterback for the New England Patriots refused to incorporate the retired signal-caller’s Superman celebration into his handshake with Stefon Diggs.
He doesn’t get that love anymore.
These two NFL quarterbacks started beefing over the Patriots’ strength of schedule. They do not see eye-to-eye on how this team has performed thus far this season.
Maye was drafted into the NFL with the No. 3 overall pick in 2024. The first two years of his career have been pretty impressive but this season is especially so.
The Patriots entered the weekend at 9-2 with a real chance to win the AFC East if the winning continues.
Their quarterback completed 71.9% of his passes for 2,836 yards and 20 touchdowns during that 11-game stretch. Maye threw only five interceptions.
Cam Newton is not convinced this season is more than just a flash in the pan. He said the success might be “fools gold” because New England plays such an easy schedule and gave more credit to Josh McDaniels than his signal-caller.
Maye spoke highly of Newton in the past. Not anymore. He responded to the quip earlier this week.
“I don’t even know what show he’s on. I think they get paid to make remarks and make certain comments. “So, I just worry about what people in our organization think, and worry about we think and what my teammates think. People are going to have different opinions. I’m just going out there on Sunday and worrying about ourselves.”
That seems like a fair assessment to me but Newton didn’t think so. He fired right back on Friday.
The beef continues.
Needless to say, Drake Maye is out on Cam Newton. He and Stefon Diggs were practicing their handshake during pregame on Sunday in the chance that they connected for a touchdown.
Diggs wanted to include Newton’s signature ‘Superman’ celebration, where he would pretend to open his shirt to reveal the S logo. Maye shut him down.
