Drake Maye will look to lead the New England Patriots to victory in their upcoming Week 4 matchup with the Carolina Panthers. Ahead of the game, he paid tribute to the team’s defensive coordinator, Terrell Williams, after he received a scary medical update last week.
Since joining new head coach Mike Vrabel’s coaching staff, Williams has experienced several health issues that have limited his involvement with the team. During the spring, Williams suffered a health scare that kept him away from the team, and he collapsed at one of the team’s training camp practices over the summer due to dehydration.
After calling the Pats’ defense in Week 1, Vrabel announced that Williams would be away from the team to address another health issue. While he’s continued meeting with the team during the week, linebackers coach Zak Kuhr has taken over the defensive play-calling duties for Williams on game days.
Vrabel revealed last week that Williams had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, which was the reason for his absence. The entire team has rallied around Williams, and ahead of their upcoming game, Maye sported a “T Strong” shirt in honor of the team’s d-coordinator.
Williams’ health is obviously more important than football, and the Patriots are going to support and assist him in any way possible during this tough time. While a return to his full-time duties has not been ruled out by the team, it’s clear that’s not the concern right now.
As Maye showed with his actions here, New England will be playing to earn a victory for Williams when they take the field on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, with the Patriots set to be very motivated to earn their second win of the year.
