Drake Maye isn’t yet a top-five NFL quarterback — but he’s playing like one.
The sophomore QB threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns while amassing a league-best 140.1 passer rating in the Patriots’ Week 6 road win over the New Orleans Saints. Maye, who’s led New England to first place in the AFC East, would’ve had even better stats if not for multiple egregious penalties called against the Patriots.
With the performance, Maye ascended to sixth on Pro Football Focus’ QB rankings for the season. However, Maye would be fifth if not for Washington Commanders QB Marcus Mariota, who owns the No. 2 spot but has made just two starts. So, for all intents and purposes, Maye is PFF’s fifth-ranked QB in 2025.
In fact, Maye’s 91.0 PFF grade against the Saints is his highest grade for a game in which he’s started and finished. Maye posted a 93.6 in Week 8 against the New York Jets last season, but he played just 20 snaps before exiting due to a concussion
In his first six games this season, Maye completed 73.2% of his passes for 1,522 yards and 10 touchdowns, along with two interceptions, 18 sacks and two lost fumbles. He also rushed 26 times for 138 yards and two scores.
Among all NFL quarterbacks, Maye currently ranks second in completion percentage, fifth in yards, fifth in touchdowns and fourth in passer rating.
Maye will look to lead the Patriots to their fourth consecutive win this Sunday when New England visits the Tennessee Titans, who began the week by firing head coach Brian Callahan.
