NFL analysts and experts might eventually run out of superlatives when describing New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.
Amid a stunning possible MVP season, Maye earned two more titles from ESPN NFL writer Matt Bowen on Wednesday.
The former safety listed the “best NFL players at 109 different skills,” opining that the Patriots signal-caller had the “best touch and timing” and “best pocket poise” in the league.
“Maye can put touch on the ball to find open voids versus zone coverage. Plus, Maye will deliver a ‘runner’s ball’ to beat man schemes. On throws of 10 to 20 air yards, Maye is completing a league-best 68% of his passes,” Bowen said. “Maye has shown a strong sense of calm inside the pocket, with subtle movements to shift his platform and climb. On pocket throws this season, Maye has 19 touchdown passes compared to four interceptions.”
As he battles the likes of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford for MVP, Maye is also earning more comparisons to another Patriots legend: Tom Brady.
Maye wasn’t the only New England player to make Bowen’s list.
On special teams, Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones was unsurprisingly named the top punt returner in the NFL.
