Drake Maye has spread the wealth throughout a breakout year, but one New England Patriots wide receiver has yet to impact the offense.
Kyle Williams hasn’t recorded a single catch during New England’s four-game winning streak. Maye targeted the rookie wide receiver once in 12 snaps during Sunday’s 31-13 victory over the Tennessee Titans.
Despite the newcomer’s inauspicious start, Maye expressed confidence in Williams eventually contributing during Monday’s interview on “WEEI Afternoons.”
“He’s doing all the right things,” Maye said of Williams. “He knows where to line up. He’s making all the plays in practice. He’s making a lot of plays in practice on the scout team. He just keeps on doing the right things and he’s got the right mindset, so he can help us. We’re excited to see what he can do in the future for us.”
The Patriots invested this year’s No. 69 pick on Williams, who closed his college career with 1,255 yards and 14 touchdowns at Washington State in 2024. The 6-foot wideout has fallen by the wayside in New England, catching two of just five targets for 20 yards this season.
Williams has played just 76 snaps through seven games. Meanwhile, Maye has built a formidable connection with Stefon Diggs while finding Kayshon Boutte on explosive plays downfield.
New England’s offense is percolating despite limited production from Williams and rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson. The development of those young talents could help Maye lead the offense to even loftier heights as the Patriots attempt to stay hot and maintain their AFC East lead.
