The New England Patriots picked up their third straight win in Week 6 when they took down the New Orleans Saints by a score of 25-19. And once again, second-year quarterback Drake Maye played a pivotal role in helping his team come out on top in this one.

Maye completed 18 of his 26 pass attempts for 261 yards and three touchdowns against the Saints, while also leading the team with 28 rushing yards on nine attempts. With the ground game getting nothing going, it was on Maye to keep New England’s offense moving up and down the field, and he ended up doing just that.

With this win and the Buffalo Bills losing to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football, the Patriots have jumped up to the No. 1 seed in the AFC East for the time being. As a result, many folks are beginning to take note of their strong play.

Of course, that starts with Maye, who has rightfully been drawing praise across the board over the past few weeks. In fact, he’s now finding himself in the MVP conversation, as he ended up cracking Fox Sports’ MVP power rankings list after his big game in Week 6.

“Maye finished with a Week 6-best 140.1 passer rating in the Patriots’ win over the Saints,” Eric Williams wrote for Fox Sports. “He is the fourth different player in league history under the age of 24 to post at least 200 passing yards and a passer rating of 100 or higher in five straight games.”

“The only other players to do that? Dan Marino, Dak Prescott and Patrick Mahomes, so he’s got some pretty good company there.”

Maye certainly isn’t the frontrunner for the award right now, but the race is wide open, and it’s becoming tougher and tougher to ignore his consistently excellent performance. Through six games, Maye has thrown for 1,522 yards and 10 touchdowns while completing 73.2% of his passes.

At the end of the day, though, winning games is Maye’s main goal, and if he remains in the MVP conversation, so be it. Maye will look to help the Patriots earn their fourth straight win in Week 7 when they take on the Tennessee Titans.
