Drake Maye breaks more Tom Brady records in Patriots’ win over Dolphins

It remains to be seen whether or not his 2025 regular season will earn him NFL MVP honors. Even if he does not end up winning the award, though, Drake Maye has made an undeniable impact on the New England Patriots and their history books this year.

On Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, the sophomore quarterback set two new franchise marks — improving upon records previously set by the greatest of all time, longtime Patriots QB Tom Brady.

The first was accomplished by Maye earning a passer rating of 129.4 before being pulled in the fourth quarter of New England’s 38-10 victory. That rating was his 13th of the season above 100, breaking a tie with Brady’s previous record set during his 2010 MVP season.

Maye’s passer rating comes as a direct result of him hitting passes at a high rate. He did so again versus the Dolphins, finishing 14-for-18 for a completion rate of 77.8%.

As a consequence, his season-long completion percentage comes in at 72%: Maye ended the regular season completing 354 of his 492 attempts (for 4,394 yards with 31 TDs and 8 INTs). This number is among the highest in NFL history, and the best the Patriots franchise has ever seen.

The previous record, of course, also belonged to Tom Brady. During his spectacular 2007 season, which earned him his first MVP trophy, he completed 68.9% of his throws.

Of course, Maye will try not just to best Brady’s marks set in those seasons but also their outcome: the Patriots did not win the Super Bowl in either of them. In 2025, they are very much in the mix to do so — starting with a wild card game against the Chargers next weekend.
