The New England Patriots are entering the 2025 campaign with quite a bit of hope surrounding their team. The main reason for that hope is second-year quarterback Drake Maye, who showed off his sky-high potential throughout his rookie season.

Maye suited up in 13 games for the Patriots last season, throwing for 2.276 yards and 15 touchdowns, while also rushing for 421 yards and another pair of scores. Those strong numbers earned the former North Carolina Tar Heel a Pro Bowl selection.

After a busy offseason of work, the hope in New England is that Maye would be able to take another step forward in 2025. It may be early in training camp, but Maye finds himself in the middle of an impressive streak that has caught some attention.

With Thursday’s practice in the books, it marked the sixth straight outing in which Maye did not throw an interception. When discussing this impressive feat, the young star quarterback revealed the secret to his success.

“It’s one of those things where I’m trying to take care of the football,” Maye said when speaking to reporters on Thursday. “Maybe they could have had a few here and there … but I think that’s a goal of ours, just throw the football, not trying to throw off the perfect game or no-hitter. I’m not scared to throw it, and I’m still not gun-shy.”

Gun-shy isn’t exactly the term that would be used to describe Maye last season, as he threw 10 interceptions during his time under center. It is worth noting that the offense around Maye in 2024 was beyond horrific, so there’s reason to believe he could cut that number down in his second season.

With a new and improved offensive line in front of him, and a de facto No. 1 wide receiver in Stefon Diggs leading the way, Maye could be in for an explosive campaign. All eyes will be on his interception streak as training camp continues, but it’s clear that he’s already impressed quite a bit throughout the first week-plus of action.
