Drake London, Darnell Mooney practicing is good news for Falcons WR depth chart

The Atlanta Falcons got by on Sunday, nearly toppling the Buccaneers, but the strain of missing Darnell Mooney and (eventually) Drake London showed.

Receivers dropped passes, including a couple on an otherwise strong day from injury fill-in Casey Washington, and couldn’t wiggle open deep to give Michael Penix Jr. a chance to air it out. At the end of the game, a Penix end zone shot to KhaDarel Hodge fell incomplete after Hodge slowed near the end of his route. Drake London was particularly missed in that moment, but Darnell Mooney was missed all game long, given that he’s the team’s premier deep threat.

Good news for this Falcons depth chart, then, that both players were practicing on Wednesday. Even better, Raheem Morris suggested that he expects London to play.

We don’t know that for certain just yet that either or both will suit up, but this has to be considered a positive sign given that Mooney was a gametime call last week and London exited Week 1 with an injury. I’d be a little wary of both being something less than 100%, but the Falcons will need them to attack a Vikings secondary that ranks as Minnesota’s greatest (and perhaps even only) defensive weakness.

Evan Birchfield will have injury reports all week, but let’s hope the whole band is back together to make some music on Sunday night.
