NFL Draft expert Daniel Jeremiah likes the idea of the Pittsburgh Steelers drafting Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe.
Many have tabbed the 2025 NFL Draft as having a weak rookie quarterback class. However, NFL Network draft expert Daniel Jeremiah thinks that shouldn’t prevent a quarterback-needy team like the Pittsburgh Steelers from taking a chance on one.
In fact, Jeremiah believes it could be a good idea for the Steelers to draft Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, depending on how free agency plays out in the next few weeks.
“If the Steelers did decide to resign Justin Fields and make him their quarterback going forward, I wouldn’t mind marrying Milroe up with him, if you’ve got Milroe potentially in the third round and you want to just become a physical, pound it team,” Jeremiah said. “But having Milroe to kind of develop behind Fields would be kind of fun just to really go all in on that approach.”
Milroe is a very intriguing prospect after serving as Alabama’s starting quarterback for the past two seasons. During that span, he threw for 5,678 yards and 39 touchdowns and rushed for 1,257 yards and 32 touchdowns.
The 22-year-old’s dual-threat ability has even drawn comparisons to some mobile NFL quarterbacks, most notably, Baltimore Ravens two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson.
Jeremiah warns teams that Milroe is far from a finished product, though.
“As a runner, he’s elite, elite, elite,” Jeremiah said. “That’s the best trait that anybody has in this quarterback class is his ability as a runner. Just take some time and patience with him in the pass game. A lot of it’s mechanically, cleaning those things up, get your cleats in the ground, et cetera. But a lot to work with there.”
Milroe’s freak athleticism could have teams willing to use higher draft capital on him than the Steelers. But if he is still available on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft, it may be difficult for the Steelers to pass up on him.
