The Tennessee Titans won’t be trading for Browns star Myles Garrett

One of the biggest stars in the NFL requested a trade on Monday. Cleveland Browns EDGE Myles Garrett took his request to be moved public via social media. Don’t expect the Tennessee Titans to enter the race for an annual Defensive Player of the Year candidate.

The Titans have a sizable need at EDGE and Garrett is arguably the best player in the league at the premier pass-rushing position. As the owner of the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, new general manager Mike Borgonzi could potentially put together an intriguing offer, with the Browns slated to pick number two, though the Titans lack terrific mid-round draft capital.

Let’s acknowledge some of the obvious facts. Borgonzi and president of football operations Chad Brinker have discussed rebuilding the Titans’ roster slowly. Acquiring a 29-year-old pass rusher, even one as dominant as Garrett, doesn’t align with the vision Borgonzi and Brinker sold Amy Adams Strunk on.

Trading for Garrett would be more in-line with how Ran Carthon operated as GM. Carthon was ultra aggressive last offseason, spending boatloads of money and draft capital on acquiring talents like L’Jarius Sneed and Calvin Ridley. It got the Titans nowhere, and it got the GM fired. Borgonzi and Brinker probably aren’t anxious to run the Titans in a similar manner.

It’s also worth noting that Garrett mentions the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl in his opening statement. The 3-14 Titans are nowhere closer to achieving that goal than the Browns are. If Garrett has any control over his final destination, as fantastic of a city as Nashville is, he won’t possess interest in relocating to a rebuilding franchise.

Tennessee’s window to compete for a championship doesn’t align with Garrett’s remaining prime years. There’s no doubt the Titans possess a massive need at a position where a future Hall of Famer just became available. Brinker and Borgonzi need to stick to their plan, however, by promising to build the Titans through the draft.

Trading premium draft capital for Garrett just wouldn’t make any sense for the Titans right now.
