Donald Trump is pushing for the Washington Commanders to change their name once again. He’d prefer the franchise return to its former nickname, the Redskins.
That name was removed as it was considered a derogatory term by many around the country. The President believes the public wants to bring the nickname back in an attempt to fight back against political correctness.
He wrote the following on social media in reference to the Washington Commanders name change on Sunday:
“The Washington ‘Whatever’s’ should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team. There is a big clamoring for this…
“Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!”
The franchise changed its name from the Redskins to the Washington Football Team in 2020. It switched to the Commanders in 2022.
The team is looking for a new home. The plan is to build a “state-of-the-art roofed stadium” at the RFK campus in the nation’s capital.
The stadium would “catalyze” a transformation of the campus to include housing, parks, hotels, restaurants, retail, and neighborhood amenities.
Axios reports that D.C. has a 99-year lease on the property. Trump could step in to break that agreement. He’s more than willing.

Local leaders are still weighing their decision on the stadium build. Public testimony is being accepted for those that would like to see the venue constructed on the RFK campus.
Donald Trump might be able to pull some strings in the Commanders’ favor. A name change might come along with it.
