Pro Football Rumors
The Dolphins have made a number of roster moves. The team announced on Monday that safety Major Burns has been signed, while Kion Smith has been released. Fellow offensive lineman Carter Warren has been waived with an injury designation.
Burns was a member of the Bears’ undrafted free agent class last year. He saw time in Chicago during the offseason but wound up being waived/injured in mid-August. After spending the season on injured reserve, Burns healed in time to play during the 2026 UFL season. He made nine appearances for the Houston Gamblers this spring.
With the UFL season now over, players are free to sign with NFL teams. Burns is among those who will spend training camp aiming to carve out a depth spot on the roster. Burns will attempt to establish a role as part of a renovated Miami secondary.
Smith also entered the NFL as a UDFA by signing with Atlanta, but most of his career has taken place in Miami. The 27-year-old has made 23 appearances and two starts to date, each of them coming as a member of the Dolphins. Smith inked a futures deal in January, so he was not owed any guaranteed money for 2026. His release will create $1.15MM in cap space for Miami.
Warren will be available via waivers, but his injury designation makes it highly unlikely he will be claimed. The former Jet also signed a futures contract with Miami this winter, although he is now on track for a move to injured reserve or a release via an injury settlement. Either way, he is unlikely to add to his 14 career games played (including six starts) with the Dolphins in 2026.
Miami entered Monday with roughly $12MM in cap space. The Burns signing can be expected to essentially offset the Smith release, so further roster tweaks during the period leading up to training camp will be possible for new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and Co.
