Miami Dolphins running back Alexander Mattison will miss the entirety of the 2025 NFL season due to a scary neck injury the veteran suffered against the Chicago Bears in the team’s first preseason contest on Sunday.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Mattison underwent emergency surgery yesterday following the game.

As a result of the season-ending injury, the Dolphins are reportedly working out 30-year-old veteran tailback Jamaal Williams — formerly of the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints. Williams, a physical power back, led the league in rushing scores in 2022 — reaching the endzone a whopping 17 times. He parlayed that season into a 3-year, $12 million deal with the Saints, but failed to live up to his contract in New Orleans — tallying just 470 yards rushing and two touchdowns in two seasons with the club.

We will continue to monitor the running back situation in Miami and update all of our readers with more information as it becomes available.
