The Miami Dolphins announced a series of roster moves earlier this week as the team looks to bolster their running backs corps. The moves come in response to a season-ending neck injury to Alexander Mattison, who the team signed in free agency this year with the goal of having him serve as a power-back option to compliment De’Von Achane.

On Monday, reports indicated the team would be adding former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Aaron Shampklin. Late Monday, the team made that move official, while placing Mattison on injured reserve. Those were not the only moves the team announced, however.

The Dolphins also signed running back Mike Boone, waiving wide receiver Monaray Baldwin to make roster space. Boone entered the NFL in 2018 as an undrafted free agent signed by the Minnesota Vikings out of Cincinnati. After three years with Minnesota, Boone joined the Denver Broncos for two seasons. He spent most of 2023 with the Houston Texans before being released near the end of the season, signing with the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad to finish the year. He bounced between the practice squad and the active roster for Carolina throughout the 2024 season.

In seven years of NFL experience, Boone has made 117 rushing attempts for 590 yards with four touchdowns; he also has 26 receptions for 184 yards. He has also worked on special teams throughout his career.

Both Boone and Shampklin will be working to get up to speed on the Miami offense ahead of Saturday’s Preseason Week 2 game against the Detroit Lions.
