The Miami Dolphins announced a series of roster moves on Monday afternoon ahead of their Week 15 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Dolphins are holding on to slim playoff chances entering this game, sitting at 6-7 on the season and in need of a lot of help if they are going to make the postseason.
To help them extend their on-going four-game winning streak, Miami started their roster moves with promoting outside linebacker Quinton Bell to the active roster from the practice squad. Bell was elevated from the practice squad in Weeks 6, 7, and 10 this year, using up his elevation eligibility for the season and he has recorded one tackle on defense in 30 snaps played. He has also played 45 snaps on special teams this season.
Bell first joined the Dolphins in 2023, signing to the practice squad. He has primarily spent his three seasons with Miami on the practice squad. He was a 2019 seventh-round draft pick out of Prairie View A&M by the Oakland Raiders and has also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, and Philadelphia Eagles in his career.
To make roster space for Bell, Miami waived linebacker Andre Carter II. Miami poached Carter off the Detroit Lionsβ practice squad last month, but he has not made an appearance with the Dolphins. He was originally signed by the Minnesota Vikings in 2023 as an undrafted free agent out of Army. Along with the Vikings, Lions, and Dolphins, Carter also has a stint with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Miami also announced the elevation of offensive lineman Kion Smith from the practice squad. Smith was signed to the Dolphinsβ practice squad two weeks ago after the team waived him from the active roster. He was elevated for last weekβs game as well. Smith joined the Dolphins in 2021, splitting time over the years between the practice squad and active roster. He has appeared in 21 games in his career, including 12 this season with two starts.
