Ja’Lynn Polk continues to make headlines for all the wrong reasons. This time, though, it’s hard to tell whether he really did anything wrong.

Following the Patriots’ season-opening home loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, Polk used his Snapchat story to post a photo of himself along with the caption “Free1,” a reference to his jersey number.

Polk, who struggled mightily last season as a second-round rookie, will miss all of the 2025 campaign due to a shoulder injury he suffered in New England’s preseason opener.

The embattled receiver was on the roster bubble before he suffered the injury, with many Patriots reporters projecting him to miss the cut. Polk likely would’ve faced an uphill battle toward meaningful playing time even if he’d stayed healthy and earned a roster spot.

Many fans interpreted Polk’s Snapchat as a sign that the Washington product wants to be released. That might be a stretch, but Polk’s prior head-scratching comments — from publicly rebuking coaching feedback to a tone-deaf dismissal of his rookie struggles — leave him with little benefit of the doubt.
